Natural Lemon Window Cleaner

This weekend I did some good old fashioned deep cleaning.  I’m talking baseboards, walls, door frames.  When I get into a deep clean like that I am especially thankful for my natural cleaners.  I can breathe free and not feel chemically bathed.

Have you ever cleaned your windows and felt like you have to hold your breath so that you don’t breath in the ammonia from your Windex?  But we all want a streak-free window…or at least we want it to look streak-free if we’ve finally taken the time to clean it.

I have tried many different recipes for window cleaner and this one is the cheapest and simplest with great streak-free results.  Now don’t panic when you first spray and wipe the glass.  It will look watery at first and then it dries perfectly.

The best part of this recipe is I have no reservations asking my kids to wash the windows for me.

Ingredients

  • 16 oz. Spray Bottle
  • 3 oz. white vinegar
  • 8 oz. distilled water
  • 3-4 drops of blue Dawn Dish Soap (can also use liquid castile soap)
  • 3-4 drops of Lemon Essential Oil ( you could also use Lime, Grapefruit, Wild Orange, or a combination)
  • Prep time: 2 minutes
  • Difficulty: easy

Directions

Simply add the ingredients to your spray bottle and give it a shake to help the dish soap dissolve.  Though I am not a big fan of Dawn, I do use it in this small amount for my window cleaner.  I do not use it for my dishes though.  I prefer not to be able to taste my dish washing detergent.  If you prefer not to use Dawn, you can use liquid Castile soap as well.
